India, UAE, Bahrain & Qatar have been moved from the UK’s red to amber list

In the most recent assessment of the UK government’s traffic light system for foreign travel, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and India were moved from the red to the amber list.

Visitors visiting these countries will no longer be required to purchase a quarantine hotel package on their return to England.

Instead, individuals can follow the amber list guidelines, which require those who have been completely vaccinated or who are under the age of 18 to present a negative lateral flow test prior to departure and to take a PCR test within two days of arriving in the UK.

Unvaccinated travelers must quarantine at home for ten days and undergo a Covid-19 test on days two and eight after returning to England, or pay for an extra test on day five to complete self-isolation sooner.

The adjustments will take effect at 4 a.m. on August 8th.

“As we learn to live with this illness, we continue to take efforts to securely reopen foreign travel, based on the latest statistics and expert public health advice,” said Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid.

“Vaccines have already avoided about 60,000 deaths and 22 million infections in England, and we are constructing a wall of defense against the illness with nearly 7 in 10 persons in the UK now twice jabbed.

“As well as moving more countries to the green list, today’s announcement also demonstrates the need for continued caution. Further countries have been added to the red list to help protect the success of our vaccine rollout from the threat of new variants.”

In the latest review, four destinations were also downgraded from amber to red — Georgia, Mexico, La Reunion and Mayotte — necessitating returning travellers to book an 11-night hotel quarantine package.

Additionally, the amber plus list has been scrapped.
