The regional offices of the Dubai Chamber in Latin America recently hosted a webinar to promote Expo 2020 Dubai as a platform for doing business in Dubai and to educate businesses in the region about the emirate’s competitive advantages.
The webinar, titled Webinar: Expo 2020: Your Platform for Doing Business in Dubai, drew nearly 600 people from 20 countries, representing a variety of industries such as consultancy, manufacturing, government, advertising, retail, and financial services.
The heads of Dubai Chamber’s offices in Brazil, Panama, and Argentina gave an outline of the plans and strategies for Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as their expectations for the mega event, during the webinar.
Omar Khan, Director of International Offices at Dubai Chamber, addressed participants, saying that the virtual event provided an excellent opportunity for Latin American companies to learn about how Expo 2020 Dubai can help them attract investment, forge trade agreements, and promote international cooperation.
He explained that as an official partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, the Dubai Chamber is concentrating its efforts on promoting the mega event on a global scale, engaging with business communities across the region, and exploring new avenues of economic cooperation through the Global Business Forum Latin America 2022, which will take place on the sidelines of Expo 2020 Dubai.
The event came to a close with video messages from the general commissioners of Chile, Argentina, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Guatemala, Paraguay, and Costa Rica, who spoke about their respective countries’ preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai and the significance of the event for the region, as well as expanding relations between the UAE and the Latin American business community.
Meanwhile, the third of three countdown clocks – along with the Dubai Frame Countdown Clock and the Dubai International Financial Centre Countdown Clock – is ticking down the hours, minutes, and seconds until the grand opening of the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region, which will be held in Dubai Mall.
The third Countdown Clock is outside Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping mall by total land area (502,000 m2), and is flanked by the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa. The cleverly chosen setting, which complements Expo’s theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” is especially worth a visit after nightfall, when the clock, the mall, and the Burj Khalifa are fully illuminated.
A unique occasion necessitates a special edition, which is why Swatch produced four new watches as part of its Expo 2020 Dubai collection, which is only available in the UAE and online.
The new models include HEKMAH (which translates to “wisdom”), which has a bio-sourced case, matte black strap with a calligraphic structure, and an Arabic font dial; AL-WASL (which translates to “connection”), whose face features the golden Expo 2020 Dubai logo, which is inspired by a 4,000-year-old ring discovered at an archaeological site in the Dubai desert; and two children’s Flik Fla watches.
Swatch’s presence at Expo 2020 will be bolstered by four actual boutiques in addition to the Countdown Clocks. Each store has a particular theme, such as Swatch and art, Swatch as a brand, the groundbreaking SwatchPAY! technology, and the company’s use of bio-innovative materials, and is located at the Welcome Plaza and in the Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability districts.
The main store, which is located in the Welcome Plaza, is the largest at 80m2. Visitors may learn more about the brand, create their own Swatch X You watch, and even see it being printed live. The remaining three establishments are each 30m2 in size and share the names of the neighborhoods in where they are located. Visitors can digitally tour the Swatch Art Peace Hotel and Swatch HQ, which was created by Shigeru Ban and is a milestone in sustainable building. Opportunity focuses on providing a platform for local artists, with the store’s exterior changing on a monthly basis to showcase new local artwork.
Finally, Sustainability highlights bio-innovative materials and includes interactive tables that allow visitors to interact with them.
Every five years, a World Expo event takes place, giving a forum for cutting-edge innovation, ground-breaking invention, and inspired thinking for the betterment of the modern world. EXPO 2020 DUBAI is the first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) area and the largest event ever staged in the Arab world.
